Unit Introduction: Anchoring Phenomenon

Launch the AWF Curriculum Unit with, preferably, an in-person water cycle demonstration, after administering the student pre-survey and at least 2 weeks before the day of the festival itself.

Anchor Phenomenon: Where is Arizona’s water? What are the connections between people, water, and heat in the environment?

Investigative Question: How does water move and change form in the earth’s natural system? What are the forces that drive the water cycle?

Activate: Students will observe, analyze and interpret a water cycle demonstration or demonstration video.

Check: Students will label a water cycle diagram with parts and processes using prior knowledge, observations and inferences from the water cycle demonstration video.
